PlayHQ is closed for construction until Ngā Tūrua Kiwi opens on Monday 9 June. E Tipu E Rea sessions are at Wellington Museum.

COMING SOON: Ngā Tūrua Kiwi

Supported by Capital Kiwi Project, our new play activation opens Monday 9 June.

Sniff, scratch and burrow at Ngā Turua Kiwi. Whānau can explore themes of creating homes, a connection to whenua, and the importance of conservation in Pōneke.

Imagine yourself as a Western Brown Kiwi as you:

  • Wriggle and crawl through kiwi burrows of different shapes and sizes.
  • Discover hidden surprises on the forest floor, including crunchy textures, a bouncy seat, and even pests hiding amongst the leaf litter.
  • Climb the towering tree to the top of the forest canopy, then slide all the way down to the forest floor.
  • Get creative and build your own cozy tūrua burrow using ‘raw’ materials (wheelchair-accessible).

There will be something for every age and accessibility-level, with both high-energy and low-energy play options, a pēpē baby area, and wheelchair-accessible play stations.

PlayHQ is Nōku te Ao Capital E’s public indoor play space for tamariki aged 0-5. Learn more about PlayHQ here.

Ngā Tūrua Kiwi will be our final PlayHQ activation at Queens Wharf, before we move to Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui, the new Central Library.  Learn more about our upcoming move.
