Play Space

Te Papa Waenga Mezzanine level

On the mezzanine level you will find our play space. This space is designed for tamariki aged 0-5 and their caregivers to enjoy together.
Pram and wheelchair access
Enter through the Harris Street entrance and follow the ramp to get to the play space. If you enter through the Victoria Street entrance, you can use the elevator or stairs to get there.

Digital Studios

Te Papa Tuarua Level 2

In our Digital Studios, tamariki and rangatahi can explore creative storytelling through technology. 
In Taupuni OnTV, our real-life production studio, tamariki create film, TV and media using industry standard equipment. In Te Taiwhanga Arapāho MediaLab, our computer suite, tamariki can design games, develop coding skills, and make music.

Ngā Paiaka Bleachers

Te Papa Whenua Ground level

You will see Ngā Paiaka Bleachers as you enter Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui through the Victoria Street entrance.
We use this gathering space for performances and public events, such as our monthly Saturday morning series Korikori Nohinohi.

Ngā Pou Ruahine

Te Papa Tuarua Level 2

Ngā Pou Ruahine is a versatile room named after the Feminine Pillars of Life, Hineahuone, Hinetītama, and Hinenuitepō.
We use this room for workshops and events. 
The room is decorated with a beautiful rawa of the Earth Mothers by Darcy Nicholas, which honours wahine and the role they play in nourishing tamariki.
Ngā Pou Ruahine is wheelchair accessible via lift.

Kia Mākūkū! Makerspace Wet

Te Papa Tuatahi, Level 1

Kia Mākūkū! Makerspace Wet is one of four Makerspaces in Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui. We use this space to hold workshops that involve liquids, paints, dyes or other messy materials.

Kia Mākūkū! Makerspace Wet is wheelchair accessible via lift.
