Eye on the Hive

Start your programme with a 1.5-hour visit to New Zealand’s Parliament – your students will have a chance to experience the buildings first hand, finding out how the nation’s decisions are made, who makes them, and how the media lets you know what’s happening when Parliament is in action.

Then, come to Capital E to experience the second part of Eye on the Hive in a 2.5-hour session working with our imaginative in-house script that mixes politics with fun. Students create their news show that looks at a controversial proposal to ban the internet, with reactions from the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Opposition; we meet the candidates for an upcoming swing-seat by-election; a media scrum tackles the issue of changing the voting age, and we have our own Party Political Broadcasts

CVC Guidelines

Capital E will be a Covid Vaccination Certificate (CVC) site from 11:59PM Thursday, 2 December under the Government’s COVID Protection Framework (traffic light system).

Operating as a CVC site is the best way to keep our team and visitors safe.

Tamariki under the age of 12 years and three months are not required to show a ‘My Vaccine Pass’. Secondary school students participating in education with our Learning Team will also be exempt.

While visiting Capital E for a school trip please follow these guidelines:

  • All adults attending with a school group will have their ‘My Vaccine Pass’ verified at point of entry and will be required to QR code scan to enter.
  • Adults and all students of school year 4 and above will be required to wear a face covering during their visit
  • Hand sanitiser will be used prior to entering
  • Students will not be required to have their ‘My Vaccine Pass’ sighted or verified. This will be reviewed for students aged 12 and over in the new year.
  • We will ask the group to remain distanced from other members of the public or other groups while visiting our sites.
  • Capital E are also open to the public during school visits.

This is an excellent educational experience: we will definitely do it whenever we come to Wellington. The students loved it.

Teacher, Christchurch

My visit to Capital E was really great. I have many friends who produce music on their computers but I’ve never tried to do so myself. After this session however, I am definitely going to download Sony’s Acid when I get home. Overall great experience and a great teacher.
