Eye on the Hive

Start your programme with a 1.5-hour visit to New Zealand’s Parliament – your students will have a chance to experience the buildings first hand, finding out how the nation’s decisions are made, who makes them, and how the media lets you know what’s happening when Parliament is in action.

Then, come to Capital E to experience the second part of Eye on the Hive in a 2.5-hour session working with our imaginative in-house script that mixes politics with fun. Students create their news show that looks at a controversial proposal to ban the internet, with reactions from the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Opposition; we meet the candidates for an upcoming swing-seat by-election; a media scrum tackles the issue of changing the voting age, and we have our own Party Political Broadcasts.

The health and safety of our visitors and staff is very important to us so we continue to follow Ministry of Health advice and guidelines around physical distancing, hygiene, visitor numbers and contact tracing. All visitors are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell, to maintain physical distancing while in Capital E and are required to complete contract tracing upon entering via the NZ COVID Tracer app or manually. We’ll continue to monitor advice from the Wellington City Council and Ministry of Health and will share updates here and on social media.

This is an excellent educational experience: we will definitely do it whenever we come to Wellington. The students loved it.

My visit to Capital E was really great. I have many friends who produce music on their computers but I’ve never tried to do so myself. After this session however, I am definitely going to download Sony’s Acid when I get home. Overall great experience and a great teacher.
