Virtual Reality is taking over the world! Now students can create their own VR Experiences at Capital E.

Armed with a smartphone, a Google Cardboard headset and some free software, students will create a brand new virtual world to explore. Gaze at distant mountains, see deer running by, and hear the wind rustling through the trees. We’re very much looking forward to bringing this amazing technology to you.

We will be using LG Nexus 5 Phones and Google Cardboard headsets.

After the session all your virtual worlds will be uploaded to our website ready to download to your smart phones. Please note that not all smart phones are VR compatible.

Google Cardboard headsets are available from or you can make your own using these instructions:

We use Unity3D, a free game engine.  It’s also the software of choice currently for our 3D Movie Making experiences with schools, and it works great.

We also use the Cardboard SDK available here and the Android SDK available here: Instructions to set up Unity at home can be found here:

We are also using some extra, very cool ‘low-poly’ assets from Quantum Theory we have bought from the Unity Asset store, especially for this experience.

  • $7.50 per student for Wellington Schools OR $10.00 for schools outside of Wellington
  • Teachers and accompanying adults are admitted free
  • We have a minimum session charge of $150.00 for all school group sessions

: Our prices for school groups are subsidised by Ministry of Education funding. Prices vary for non-school groups. If you are a non school group and you wish to make a booking, please email with your enquiry.

Really really enjoyed my trip here it was awesome!!!!! I loved it because there was no restrictions we got to put whatever we wanted or what felt right, it was easy to learn and i would definitely want to come back here again. Thanks Capital E!!!
My visit to Capital E was really great. I have many friends who produce music on their computers but I’ve never tried to do so myself. After this session however, I am definitely going to download Sony’s Acid when I get home. Overall great experience and a great teacher.
To experience this is not just a pleasure, it is a privilege. I had so much fun making video games because I have played many, but made none until today, thank you so much!
I have never ever put different music in a part of a movie before. I only listen to music but I have never changed it to another piece of music before, this is one of the most: thrilling, cool, movitastic things I have ever done and it looks like this is just going to be the cooliest camp ever, one of the reasons is because of this.
We had such a awesome time! It was definitely a highlight of our whole Wellington trip because it was a new fun experience to be doing something, rather than sitting back and just watching what other people created. Definitely a thumbs up!

When i tried to install the apk file on my tablet, it couldn’t, saying there were problems with it.

Hey Benjy, thanks heaps for your message! I’m glad you’ve followed up on your apk.

I’m afraid the android app you created isn’t designed for tablets. You’ll need to try it on an android Smart Phone. Let me know how you get on!

We really enjoyed learning how to create a Virtual Reality world, because it has taught us new skills and a new game to play. We can’t to design some more worlds at home. Thanks

We both had a very exciting and fun experience because we had never done something before, and hope to expand our skills more in the future.
