Soundscapes

With our music-making digital software and fully-equipped digital studio, students will respond to the ideas of ‘dual heritage’ and ‘shared future’, linking to the Tuia – Encounters 250 commemoration of the first onshore meetings between Māori and Europeans. Using their creativity and response to modern instruments and traditional Māori instruments, students will build a piece that reflects on New Zealand’s culture and society.

Students will hone their technical music-making skills with splicing, trimming, remixing and layering sound to create a piece of music that expresses their perspective on the dynamics of New Zealand culture.

Soundscapes gives each student the opportunity to creatively explore bi-cultural sound sources and take home a piece of music to play and share with others.

Music Arts Level 1-8

“Explore and express sounds and musical ideas, drawing on personal experience, listening, and imagination.”

Key Competencies

• Thinking
• Managing Self
• Using Language, Symbols and Text
