POSTPONED - High Speed Game Design - Level Up

Announcement March 17 2020:

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the NZ Games Festival have made the decision to postpone the Festival including Level Up workshops until next year, April 19-25th, 2021.

All event tickets will be fully refunded and the Capital E  team will get in contact with ticket holders shortly.

In this workshop we’ll play a fun, fast card game and then break it into pieces so that we can redesign the game mechanics to give it a whole new feel. You’ll be amazed at how many different games can be designed from the same starting point!

By the end of the workshop groups will be playing each other’s games, no computers required. Students will walk away having learned how to design game mechanics and how to improve the games they design.

Come have fun doing a lot of game design very quickly!

Thursday 23 April 9am – 12noon – 8-12 yrs
Thursday 23 April 1pm – 4pm – 11-17 yrs

Facilitator: James Everett

James has been a game designer for over 18 years, working at studios across Canada and in Wellington. He is a producer and lead game designer at Magic Leap/Weta Workshop, working with teams making games for the new medium of Spatial Computing. James has led workshops and spoken around the world and enjoys sharing his love of game design with everyone.
