Nōku te Ao Capital E is located at 4 Queens Wharf, Te Aro, Wellington. On the ground floor are PlayHQ, the front desk, bathrooms, offices, and a lift. On level one are the MediaLab and OnTV digital studios.

Getting here

Nōku te Ao Capital E is in the heart of Wellington City. To reach us, take a 5-minute walk from Lambton Quay and carefully cross Jervois Quay towards the Wellington Waterfront. For more information on bus stops and timetables, you can plan your journey on the Metlink website.
It is a 20-minute walk from Wellington Train Station to Nōku te Ao Capital E. Cross onto Waterloo Quay from Bunny Street and soak in the breathtaking view while you take a stroll alongside the Wellington Waterfront. When you reach The Crab Shack/Shed 5, take a right and walk under the Queens Wharf sails to reach Nōku te Ao Capital E’s vibrant, colourful building, next to TSB Arena’s entrance.

Loading zone and accessible car parks

There is a 15-minute loading zone outside Nōku te Ao Capital E, which is monitored by Wellington City Council parking attendants.  
There is one accessible car park outside the front entrance to Te Waka Huia o Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho Wellington Museum. This is strictly controlled by staff and is for mobility parking permit holders only. This accessible car park is available to mobility parking permit holders visiting Nōku te Ao Capital E.

Accessible amenities and services at Nōku te Ao Capital E

  • Level access to the main entrance (through PlayHQ double manual doors). 
  • An accessible area for retail transactions at the front desk.  
  • An accessible unisex toilet on the ground floor.  
  • Certified service dogs are welcome.  
  • Access to a lift in TSB Arena foyer to get up to the MediaLab and OnTV digital studios on level one.  
  • An Evac Chair for use in an emergency and a trained staff member are on site at all times. 
  • A sign-language welcome video inside the front entrance at PlayHQ.  

PlayHQ access

PlayHQ is accessed from a double manual door entry on Queens Wharf and is wheelchair accessible. The activities in PlayHQ are for children under five years, so many are low to the ground. However, PlayHQ is staffed with a Nōku te Ao Capital E team member who can assist with any of the activities.  

Accessibility kits for tamariki

PlayHQ has a sensory accessibility kit available for any tamariki that may need it. Please feel free to ask for it at the front desk. The kit includes: 
  • Polarised sunglasses 
  • Earmuffs 
  • Sensory toys 
  • A soft weighted blanket 

OnTV and MediaLab access

The Digital Education suite (OnTV and MediaLab) is located on level one at Nōku te Ao Capital E. They can be accessed via an elevator from TSB Arena foyer next door. If this is required, please let our education booking team know when booking at education@experiencewellington.org.nz and let a Nōku te Ao Capital E team member know when your school arrives for its scheduled education session, and they will provide further information.  

Companion/support person ticketing

Companions/support people can obtain complimentary tickets to paid exhibitions, events and programmes they are attending with a ticket holder.

Safe spaces statement

Harassment and harmful behaviours towards anyone at our sites including our staff, other visitors, artists, or contractors will not be tolerated. Perpetrators of such behaviour will be asked to leave immediately.  
Harassment and harmful behaviour include but is not limited to:  
  • Racist, sexist, classist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, religiously bigoted comments.   
  • Intimidating and bullying behaviour.   
  • Failure to respect other’s boundaries.   
  • Inappropriate sexualised behaviour or advances.
