In their New Zealand debut, Australia's award-winning magical purveyors of A Cappella Coco's Lunch bring their extraordinary song writing, brilliant harmonies and stunning live performances for children to the stage. The 2007 Double ARIA nominees have won the hearts of little people around the globe for over a decade, with scintillating songs for children that are clever, catchy and full of zest. Showcasing material from their ARIA Award-nominated album Rat, Trap, Snap! these women will have kids shuffling, clapping and dancing the mambo, singing along with Miss Muffet and joining in on classic Coco's hits such as Wally Wombat Shuffle, Fire, Let's Dance and Rat, Trap, Snap! About the performers
LISA YOUNG has studied music across a wide spectrum, from Jazz and Contemporary Improvised music to the aural traditions of India, Africa and Bulgaria. She completed a Master of Music Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts, which included a thesis in Konnakkol (South Indian vocal percussion). In 2003 her composition ‘Thulele Mama Ya’ won ‘Best Folk/World Song’ in the CARA awards in the USA. Lisa also performs with the Lisa Young Quartet - a jazz/world music ensemble where the compositions represent her diverse musical journey. In 2006 they released their most recent album ‘GRACE’ which won ‘Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album 2007’ at the ‘Bell’ Awards.
NICOLA EVELEIGH is an Honours graduate in Improvisation from the Victorian College of the Arts, where she was awarded the Ivan Oliver Scholarship. An outstanding flautist, Nicola performed with Judy Jacques at the Edinburgh Festival in 1997 and is featured on her album Making Wings, which won Best Jazz Vocal Recording 2004 and toured throughout Victoria, headlining at the Flinders Island Wind Festival. She was a guest with the Monash University Gamelan ensemble Dome, with whom she toured New Zealand in1999. Nicola has tutored at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Council of Adult Education, and the Yarra Valley Summer School.
GABRIELLE MACGREGOR is a first-class honours graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (Bachelor of Music Performance) where she specialised in Improvisation. She has performed with the Tony Gray Quintet, and with shakuhachi master Andrew MacGregor at the Byron Bay Festival and at Shinto ceremonies. Gabrielle’s compositions have been featured in Australian short films, and her song Invisible Rhythm has been included in the third year curriculum of the Melbourne University Music Education course and the VCA Bachelor of Music curriculum. She currently also performs with Osh10 and Creatures Of A Daydream.
JACQUELINE GAWLER is an Arts Honours graduate of the University of Melbourne, where she received scholarships to study languages in Japan and Italy. Jacqueline trained classically on piano and voice from an early age and began her career with Jackie Gaudion’s Angels of Soul. Jacqueline studied at the Berklee Jazz Clinics in Italy and since then has performed with many of her own ensembles, including The Jacqueline Gawler Quartet. Jacqueline was a composer for the hit Canadian/Australian children’s television series The Saddle Club and in 2005 was awarded the Montsalvat Trust Encouragement Award for Original Composition. In 2007 she travelled to Senegal and The Gambia where she studied West African percussion with Master Drummer Alagie Malo Sonko.
LIBBY O’DONOVAN Hailed by the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘a powerful, sassy performer’, Libby O’Donovan has performed for over ten years across Australia and around the world. Her achievements include performances in Tokyo, New York City and Canada with various jazz and Cabaret acts including The Meredith Crocksley Project and her co-creation Women with Standards, for which she won a Green Room Award. Libby has starred as a cabaret and jazz performer in several major festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe, Sydney Spring Festival and the Perth International Arts Festival.
