ON THE CUTTING EDGE

In the heart of New Zealand, an experiment is being conducted. The subject is digital puppetry, and the “scientist” is Frank Newman, who is currently in the midst of development for an upcoming production he is directing entitled Magnolia Street. Newman’s latest theatrical experiment, housed at New Zealand’s Capital E National Theatre for Children, involves what he calls “tracking,” a form of digital puppetry that will allow a projected image to move with the object onto which it is projected, thereby redefining the term “moving image.” - TYA Today (Theatre for Young Audiences), USA

Picture of Jake and Mrs Booth on Magnolia Street
Through Jakes friendship with Mrs Booth we see a shift in his level of respect and integrity when dealing with others.

Jake explores the diverse characters that inhabit Magnolia Street and his friendship with Mrs Booth in particular leads him to question his need for community and his participation in it.

Jake soon learns he has to manage his use of language in a world where literally anything you say can actually happen.

The opening of the work shows how disconnected Jake is from hisfamily. His adventures force him to relate to others in new ways and revaluate his relationships.
