Capital E National Theatre for Children Planning Tips

Please read this information prior to your visit to the theatre. It will help you with information about buying tickets and information to share with your students to make them comfortable with a new experience.

Arriving at the Theatre

The 2009 nationally touring shows run for:

Seasons - approximately 45 minutes

Stealing Games - approximately 55 minutes.

Please arrive at the theatre no later than twenty minutes before the start time of the performance to ensure that everyone is seated in time. Shows have to start on time, therefore those arriving late may be asked to wait until an appropriate time to enter.

Tickets

Tickets will be available to be collected from the venue on the day. Each child in the theatre must have a ticket for entry into the show. When you arrive at the theatre please report to the Capital E representative (wearing a bright purple t-shirt) who will issue you with your allocated seating tickets. The usher will escort you to your allocated seats, please ensure that your group sits only in the seats allocated to you.

Additional tickets can be purchased on the day if there are seats available, or you can order them from Capital E.

Tickets paid for can only be refunded if cancellation is made more than two weeks prior to performance time. A 15% administration fee will be deducted from the refund. If cancellation is made two weeks prior or less to the performance time then no refund is given.

Babies (aged under 2) are admitted for free. (All children aged 2+ pay the child price.) Babies are not given a seat – they sit on their caregiver’s knee. Please ask all caregivers to take their baby into the theatre foyer if the baby cries during the show, so that all children can hear the performers.

Free and Paying Adults

Capital E will admit one free adult per ten children - additional adults pay the same price as a child.

Theatre Etiquette

  • A smoke machine may be used in the show. Please advise the children that this is not real smoke – it will not affect their breathing or make them cough.
  • There will be times when the theatre is blacked out – please reassure the children that this will only be for a short time.
  • We recommend that all adults try to sit behind another adult in the theatre so as not to block the view for a child.
  • Please encourage children to walk when inside the theatre and not to stand, climb on or kick the chairs.
  • Please remind children to stay with their group – if they get separated they should go to an usher for assistance.
  • Children respond naturally to a show through laughter and comments. Our performers enjoy this, however disruptive behaviour spoils the show for the rest of the audience.
  • Please visit the toilet prior to the performance.
  • Please be aware of the exits and in case of emergency follow the ushers.
  • Please turn mobile phones off.
  • No photography or other recording devices are permitted.. Please see our website for show photos.
  • Theatres do not allow the consumption of food and drink inside the auditorium.

Teachers Resource

Capital E National theatre for Children provides a free, full curriculum-linked teacher resource with activities, unit plans and resources for all shows. These are downloadble free from our website with a PIN-number which you will receive once your booking is confirmed.

To get the most out of the productions we strongly advise you work through the resource before the show and discuss the themes of the production with the children.
