Adapted for the stage by Peter Wilson.

Composer - Thomas Press

Puppet designer: Sue Hill

Shadow Puppets: Debz Ruffel

Kiwi Moon is a charming New Zealand tale of a Kiwi’s journey of self discovery - ideal for 2-7 year olds.

The story

A little white kiwi is puzzled about where he fits in - because he doesn't blend into his environment like his mother.

In fact in the bold light of the moon he stands out even more. Maybe the moon is his mother?

This story speaks of diversity and the effect that being different has on your community relationships.

Sitting alongside this narrative is the sub-story of the social and environmental history of New Zealand from the first flora and fauna to colonialisation and its effects on the interaction of both Maori and Pakeha with each other and the world of the forest.

To make this accessible to a young audience, it is told through the life of the little white Kiwi and other native animals and people he meets.

The production

Kiwi Moon uses a combination of song, 3-D puppetry and shadow puppetry and a 3-screen set to present the show's two distinct narratives.

Performers use song and 3-D puppetry to present the tale of the little kiwi while alongside, shadow puppets reveal the social and environmental background of New Zealand.

The production is designed to be a visual delight for young audiences.

CAST - Four

CREW - Two - one lighting/sound technician and one stage manager
