Hinepau
"Youngsters...will be hooked on theatre for life...with not a second of condescension or talking down to the audience - is truly exhilarating and heartening...the best uses of audio visual technique I have seen in theatre."
Laurie Atkinson, The Dominion Post, 8 March 2005.

Hinepau had it's Australian premiere in 2006 with successful seasons at The Sydney Opera House and The Arts Centre in Melbourne.
Capital E National Theatre for Children brings the tale of Hinepau, written by award-winning New Zealand writer Gavin Bishop, to the stage in this funny and sometimes sad adaptation.
It tells of Hinepau. She looks different from the rest of her village and is banished as a witch. But when the gods are angered by her people, Hinepau and her magical weaving bring life back to the land.
This inspiring piece of theatre uses magnificent audio visuals, design, hand-woven puppets, music and performance to bring the story to life. Humorous yet thought-provoking, Hinepau offers a great message for everyone about the consequences of neglecting customs and the wisdom of forgiveness and understanding.
It combines an historic Maori village setting and traditonal values with contemporary performances and design making this 100% New Zealand show amusing, dynamic and relevant. It premiered to rave reviews at the 2005 Capital E National Arts Festival and was enjoyed by both young and old.
It is adapted and directed by award-winning New Zealand performer/director Rachel House with puppet direction by National Theatre for Children's artistic director Peter Wilson
