Capital E National Theatre for Children
Presenting award-winning professional theatre for young people. . .
Since it was established in 1997, Capital E National Theatre for Children has become one of New Zealand's leading professional theatre companies.
Capital E National Theatre for Children's mission is to enrich young people's understanding of their world and through a shared experience with their families and communities, explore the insights, relevance, humour and humanity of stories drawn from the cultural diversity of New Zealand (Aotearoa).
Part of the Company's success is due to its material - fresh, fun and completely original drama productions written, produced and performed by high-calibre professionals.
It's in the business of children's theatre - operating from within a funding base of Creative New Zealand, Wellington City Council through the Wellington Museums Trust and sponsors..
This has enabled it to develop a full-time staff infrastructure, plan its annual programme years ahead and implement an artistic development programme attracting, employing and training artists in the field of children's theatre.
Capital E National Theatre for Children serves two principal markets.
- Schools
The theatre company performs for children in pre-school, primary school, and lower secondary schools nationwide. This generally covers the ages of 2 - 14 years. Shows are presented nationally in theatre venues during school terms to give students a total experience of 'going to the theatre'.
- Public
Shows are produced for children aged 2 - 8 and 7 - 14 years. All shows are designed to also appeal to the adult audience attending with the children, and therefore many can be classified as family shows.
Performances run during school holidays and weekends at the Capital E McKenzie Theatre, Wellington. Selected shows are performed at festivals and venues throughout New Zealand and different times of the year.
